Contribute to Our Nurse-Powered Politics!

Join the Fight for Safer Hospitals

Healthcare Powered Politics means we UNITE to protect patients and nurses in today's rapidly changing, corner-cutting world of healthcare and politics. It means we get involved!

Please complete this form to contribute to our Healthcare-Powered Politics fund (called COPE, which stands for Committee on Political Education) that enables us to have a direct impact on politics. By taking action together and contributing to our Union's political fund, we've won:

  • Expanded Sick Leave (2023)
  • Patients Right to Know (2021)
  • PPE Stockpile Mandate (2020)
  • Protect Workers Affected by COVID-19 (2020)
  • Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals (2019)
  • Whistleblower Protection (2017)
  • Workplace Violence Protection (2016)
  • Hospital Patient and Healthcare Worker Injury Protection Act (2012)
  • Aerosol Transmissible Diseases Cal/OSHA Standard (2010)
  • Needle Safety Law (2000)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (1999)

This year (2024) we are working to pass AB 2975, the Secure Hospitals for All bill. The bill aims to reduce the threat of violence in our hospitals, by requiring hospitals to place metal detectors at the main hospital entrance, the Labor & Delivery entrance, and the Emergency Department. It requires that these metal detectors are staffed by security officers at all times, and it also requires that security officers—not healthcare workers—will be responsible for searching patients belongings.

Using our resources and collective strength—both in our hospitals and our communities—we can make an impact on healthcare across California and the nation.
