“Is it because you can’t or won’t notify us? In the ER we are dealing with things we don’t even know about. I was exposed to meningitis and found out two weeks later by another source and not the hospital. What is our protocol?!”
Karyn Elsenbach, RN SJRMC
One of our core safety proposals Thursday was our public health emergency article. From PPE availability to childcare to isolation and notification — and more — Nurses and Professionals should have a say about system-wide preparedness and response during a public health crisis. We did not have a voice early in the COVID pandemic. Our proposed Task Force would include Union members and would give us a voice in these policies.
We need sound protocols and a better prompt uniform notification system beyond emails that lets us know what we are exposed to.
We need to know, so that we can tell our families. We’ve heard horror stories already about delayed notification about infections at our hospitals. Email is not sufficient. We can’t be caught off guard ever again!
Dignity’s pattern of looking out for the bottom line and demanding cuts that impact quality care needs to end. We can’t do this alone!
We need to support our bargaining team.
