At the bedside and at the bargaining table, we’re fighting for our patients’ safety.

August 28, 2024

Your bargaining team stood firm on our position rejecting turning our hospital into one big float pool and rejecting any takeaways in our health coverage.

“Technically I can practice in the ED, but I am unfamiliar with a host of things and not just where things go. Units have a deep understanding of each other, this plan disrupts that. One question I have is about our intensivists, they regularly round on our unit and check in on our patients. Would they also be expected to round in the ED? This makes them inefficient. Imagine cooking dinner in a stranger’s house—yes everything might be there, but you don’t know where it is. Now, instead of dinner, it’s your loved one’s life at stake.”

Unbelievable: management said they don’t believe that imposing healthcare costs on nurses & professionals will affect recruitment and retention.

We also proposed wage increases to catch us up, as well as increased differentials and two additional holidays: MLK Day and Juneteenth.

Our bottom line is patient safety. Our patients deserve the quality of care that comes from having a stable workforce, and turnover is already a major issue in some of our units. Management’s proposed healthcare takeaway would make turnover a major issue for all of us and our patients.
