Our SEIU 121RN COPE Committee and chapter president. Julia Arceo, along with fellow SEIU 121RN members Meghan Martinez and Joshua Sharp, who also work at St. Johns Medical Center (MC), attended the event with a clear mission: to network with and engage community leaders about SEIU 121RN priorities.
These priorities included the current issues with St. Johns MC Monitor Tech outsourcing, enforcement of California Department of Public Health (CDPH) ratios, and garnering support for upcoming contracts in bargaining. The trio demonstrated the importance of educating and engaging with Ventura County community leaders and candidates who will stand with them in their fight to win strong contracts and protect patient safety.
SEIU 121RN members are not just advocates at the workplace; we extend efforts to the political arena as well. We volunteer in elections and contribute to the Committee on Political Education (COPE) funds.
The goal is to elect candidates who will fight for us and pass measures that will benefit both SEIU 121RN members and patient safety.
The “Spring Fling” event was a testament to the power of community engagement and the impact it can have on effecting change. It served as a reminder that when individuals come together for a common cause, they can make a significant difference in their community and beyond. Our participation in the event highlights our commitment to colleagues and the patients we serve.
