Our 10-day strike at Garfield Medical
Center (GMC) in Monterey Park—over
unsafe staffing, broken equipment, and
inadequate workplace violence policies
and more—exemplified our collective
power in action.
Leading up to the 10-Day strike your
121RN Political Dept worked to gain
crucial support from several local, state,
and federal elected officials, including
key community leaders like Monterey
Park Mayor Jose Sanchez. For 10 days,
Mayor Sanchez stood shoulder-toshoulder
with members on the strike line.
He and others shared supportive social
media posts, sent letters and signed on
to strike resolutions at the Los Angeles
County Federation of labor.
The GMC bargaining team worked
tirelessly to turnout the Los Angeles
labor community, for a wildly successful
Labor Solidarity Day at the strike. The
streets were lined with our union sisters
& brothers from across all sectors who
stood in solidarity with Garfield members
on the picket line!
