Last October’s Nurse Alliance biennial conference brought about 300 SEIU nurses together from across the U.S. and Canada to Miami, Fl. Overwhelmingly, nurses shared how meaningful it was to connect sharing experiences and best practices with each other. There was also overwhelmingly positive feedback on the sessions related to medical racism and discrimination within nursing.
With that feedback in mind, the Nurse Alliance of SEIU Healthcare will be offering a webinar during Black History Month where nurse members are eligible to receive 1.5 continuing education contact hours.
Disrupting Structural Racism: Strategies for Building Structural Competency in Nursing
Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024
1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m ET / 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. PT
Nurse members should pre-register by Tuesday, Feb. 20 using this link: http://seiu.me/nursece
This free continuing education session, led by one of the most popular speakers at the conference, Keilah Jacques, will explore the root causes of disparities, inequities and injustices in healthcare and inspire advocacy and allyship for equitable care.
Nurses will gain insight into the principles of structural competence and have the opportunity to work together through case studies to identify historic and contemporary drivers of racism, bias and discrimination across healthcare systems and within their own workplace and practice.
