Kindred La Mirada Bargaining Update #2

April 5, 2023

Bargaining Update

“I’m an ICU Full time Nurse here at La Mirada, when our house supervisor takes time off they request our short-staffed unit for coverage. We assume the duty of Charge Nurse and House supervisor—we should not act in roles that are not our official title. Meanwhile in ICU, I’m shorthanded a Nurse and have to rely on travelers, whom have to be ramped up and/or trained on moment’s notice.” Sharmine Guerrero, RN

It is abundantly clear that Nurses want more from Kindred La Mirada. Do Loyalty and tenure mean anything? Honestly, experienced Nurses and health professionals are leaving to other facilities because they feel undervalued.

The hospital uses “Team Nursing” to skirt the ratios under Title 22 law, leaving more responsibility on nurses and stretching us further.

We want to negotiate improvements, but they fall on deaf ears or worse rejected.
Nurses want consistency in workflow, we need to address break and house sup/charge Nurse coverage.

This never-ending cycle needs to be addressed with a fair contract that addresses burnout and retention problems. We want to stay at Kindred, we need to stop the flow of experienced Nurses leaving Kindred. Let’s find solutions to these problems. Nurses, we need to hear from you!

What is your experience at Kindred? Are you taking on roles that you should not? Are you consistently out of ratio? We need to know.
