On Wednesday May 20, Nurses gathered at AHMC-operated Greater El Monte Community Hospital, to protest the proposed closure of the city's only Labor and Delivery Unit. As the only hospital in the city, local residents rely on GEM for critical medical services, including its Mother/Baby unit. Patients coming to the hospital to deliver their babies would now need to be quickly transferred to another hospital in another city, which can be extremely dangerous.
