Dear SEIU 121RN Member,

We've learned that you recently became a member of our Union. Let the two of us be among the first to welcome you!

A Union is working people standing together—and you just made us STRONGER!

During this pandemic, Nurses' voices are more important than ever. When we speak with a collective voice, we have an impact. Across the nation, Union Nurses are leading the fights for adequate PPE, safe staffing, and better safety protocols.

And right here in our Union, SEIU 121RN members are speaking out:

Make no mistake—Union Nurses have been at the forefront for decades of every major safety advancement in our profession. We have led the way (often fighting hospital administrators) on everything from AIDS treatment to needle safety to workplace violence prevention to safe staffing levels.

And in 2020, we won two more new legislative victories. The Governor signed our PPE and Workman's Comp bills!

Then in February, we introduced a new bill in Sacramento to fix the broken "program flexibility" system that leaves our units dangerously understaffed. Read about AB 1422—our "Patients' Right to Know" bill. Learn more about our Nurse-Powered Politics program.

We use every tool at our disposal to continue to take the lead on making our hospitals and our healthcare system safer for all of us:

There couldn't be a better time to stand united and strong. This year, we've been in (or will soon begin) Union contract negotiations with several hospitals. We work hard to preserve the benefits we’ve already won and build on these gains with our proposed improvements.

Check out our interactive 2020 Annual Report that looks back on our struggles, our strike, and how we stayed strong… This time last year, we never expected the "Year of the Nurse" to play out like it did. But we stepped up and did what we always do—we gave our all for our patients and pushed for safety.

Finally, we continue to fight off the increasing attacks on our freedom to stand together in a strong union. Organizations with deceptively patriotic, pro-worker-sounding names like “Freedom Foundation” and “National Right to Work Foundation” continue their decades-long attacks on our right to be part of a strong Union with the power to improve our working conditions, advocate for our patients and negotiate good wages and benefits for ourselves and our families. And who's behind it? Basically, it's the "bosses" of this country. Click here to learn more.
