**More good news on our safe staffing bill** Yesterday Senate Bill 227 passed through the Assembly Appropriations Committee

July 11, 2019

I'm excited to report more good news about our "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill, SB 227. After yesterday's 12 to 3 vote in the Assembly Appropriations Committee, we head next to a vote of the full Assembly. (For a quick reminder on how a bill becomes a law, check out the old "Schoolhouse Rock" video: "I'm just a bill.")

Check out what San Fernando Valley RN Yolanda has to say about this important trip to Sacramento…

Last year, our bill got all the way to the Governor's desk. But our bosses over at the California Hospital Association spent $$$ BIG MONEY $$$ to lobby against it with their fairytale: they don't have any staffing problems or if they do, it's Nurses' fault!

• GOING TO THE BATHROOM • STEPPING OFF THE FLOOR • FAMILY EMERGENCY • • LACTATION...WHATEVER • FLU SEASON • SCHOOL CALLED • TRAFFIC IN L.A. •

ICYMI, check out this HCA spokesperson who was left speechless when we fought the fairytale at last month's hearing!

What this bill will do...

Our important "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill will create hospital accountability by establishing unannounced visits by CDPH and imposing fines against hospitals for violations of Title 22 nurse-to-patient ratios.

Hope you can make it to Sacramento with us!

In unity,

Gayle Batiste, RN, CNOR President, SEIU Local 121RN

P.S. Be sure to sign this petition for national nurse-to-patient ratio regulations!
