Dear 121RN Steward,
Special Message for New StewardsWelcome and thank you for taking the lead at your worksite! You just made our Union stronger!Union strength starts at our worksites and as a Steward, you are the foundation of a solid, effective union. You inspire other members to stand strong and united for good union jobs and good hospitals that provide safe patient care.Thank you for your dedication to your patients, your colleagues and your Union! |
It's been an exciting few weeks since I last sent you an update. Some really good news is that our "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill made it out of the State Senate with a strong majority supporting it. Click »»» here to see how our legislators voted. The bill now goes to the Assembly side of our state legislature. We’ll continue to have opportunities to speak out at every important step of the bill’s journey.
- To learn more about how we’ll get this bill signed into law, please sign up »»» here for our August 8th Lobby & Media Training—and bring others from your worksites to attend! RNs will learn how to speak with legislators and the press. (Many of you have already attended! Thank you! This will be the third training we've held this year and possibly your final chance to attend this type of training in 2018.)
- ICYMI, we used this year's May Day march to not only stand in solidarity with all working people, but also to say loud and clear that America needs UNION nurses because we are the loudest voices out their for patient safety! We got a lot of news coverage that day, check it out »»» here.
- As I've mentioned before, many of you work at hospitals that will negotiate a new Union job contract this year. Be sure to stay current and keep your co-workers mobilized. Your Bargaining Teams will be S-T-R-O-N-G if they know their colleagues have their back. Check out your hospital's page on our website »»» here where you can find the latest news: Bargaining Surveys...Bargaining Team...Bargaining Updates...let's do this!
- And speaking of bargaining, we know it’s not easy for bosses to share power. It’s “not in their business plan” to sit down and negotiate with us as equals. That's why they've pushed a case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court to try to silence and weaken us. We expect the decision any day now. Learn more »»» here. We won't back down. America needs more Union jobs. Learn more »»» here about how to get the word out.
- I hope you caught all of our great social media during Nurses Week and the Nurse Alliance 2018 Conference. Did you miss it? Then be sure you follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
- Finally, I want to make sure you follow our "Healthcare Hero" _Dr. Ed Hernandez' campaign for Lt. Governor..._he made it to the run-off in November! Learn more »»» here, including why he's our hero!
