Dear 121RN Steward,
Special Message for New StewardsWelcome and thank you for taking the lead at your worksite! You just made our Union stronger!Union strength starts at our worksites and as a Steward, you are the foundation of a solid, effective union. You inspire other members to stand strong and united for good union jobs and good hospitals that provide safe patient care.Thank you for your dedication to your patients, your colleagues and your Union! |
We have a lot happening at SEIU Local 121RN lately, but I wanted to take a moment, catch my breath and make sure all our Stewards are up-to-date on the latest Union literature, our event calendar and other important news.
- First of all, please join us tomorrow night—and bring some colleagues—for our Legislative Meet'n'Greet here at the Union Hall. This is our opportunity to have important face-to-face conversations with lawmakers about patient and nurse safety. Learn more and RSVP »»» here.
- If you didn't have a chance yet, be sure to watch the ABC News report on our new "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill, SB 1288. It was exciting to see this coverage state our case so clearly and not even mention the false message the hospitals are putting out there: that it's our fault because we call in sick (good grief). Some more great news: the same day we got this news story, our bill also sailed through the Senate Health Committee 7-to-2. Read more »»» here.
- There's still time to help provide First Aid at the #MayDay march downtown next week. Tuesday, May 1st is International Workers Day. Sign up »»» here to provide first aid services out of our Purple SEIU Local 121RN R.V. and support our sisters and brothers in the labor movement!
- Many of you work at hospitals that will negotiate a new Union job contract this year. Check out your hospital's page on our website »»» here where you can find the latest news: Bargaining Surveys...Bargaining Team...Bargaining Updates...a lot of bargaining!
- Nurses Week is just around the corner! Get the details about the gifts, food and raffle prizes happening at your hospital »»» here.
- Finally, it's going to take a lot of Nurse Power to get our "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill passed. It will take all of us to contact our legislators. Please encourage your co-workers to attend our Lobby and Media Training here at our Union Hall on May 30th where RNs will learn how to speak with legislators and the press. Sign up »»» here.
Union Bulletin Board
It’s never been easier to keep your Union Bulletin Board up-to-date! We've created a new online Purple Comms folder for all the latest flyers and brochures, such as…
- A new flyer to recruit RNs to speak with voters during June's "Get out the vote!" efforts—this is important work! To ensure good nursing legislation is passed, we also have to ensure that California elects legislators who place patient and nurse safety above hospital profits!
- A turnout flyer for the May 30th Lobby and Media Training
- Info on the California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation's 2018 Scholarship Program
- ...and more!
Look for an invitation to access this folder. It will be in an email from "SEIU 121RN" and will include a link to the folder. Once you've accepted the invitation, you'll be able to download flyers, print them and post them to your bulletin boards. |
For hospital-specific flyers, please contact your Union Rep (click on your hospital here for details).
