Dear SEIU Local 121RN member,
Next Wednesday, the California Senate's Health Committee will hold a hearing on our "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill, SB 1288.
Senator Holly Mitchell needs to hear from you.
Senator Mitchell (Senate District 30, which includes Culver City, Ladera Heights, Westmont, Crenshaw, Downtown, and Florence neighborhoods of Los Angeles) sits on the California Senate Health Committee. Several RNs from our Union will travel to Sacramento on Wednesday to let these legislators know how important this bill is to RNs and how critical it is for patient safety. Let's make sure they're ready to listen by calling them in the days leading up to the hearing.
Getting through this committee is the first step to making sure this bill becomes a law.
(Learn more about how a bill becomes a law at our Lobby & Media Training here at our Union hall on May 30th. Click here to RSVP.)
Call Senator Mitchell TODAY:(916) 651-4030Sample script:My name is ____________ and I'm a Registered Nurse at ___(hospital name and city)___. I'm calling to ask the Senator to join us in supporting SB 1288, which will improve patient and nurse safety. SB 1288 will mandate unannounced inspections of hospitals with a special focus on safe staffing. It will also increase the penalties for repeat offender hospitals that continue to flout safe staffing regulations. (If you have experienced unsafe staffing at your hospital, you can add something like: "I have seen how dangerous it is when hospitals don't adequately staff our units.") I hope the Senator will stand with us and support SB 1288. |
Let me know if you make the call!
In unity, Gayle Batiste, RN, CNOR President, SEIU Local 121RN
