We vote "YES!" for our new Union Contract
"We won a good contract, now we have to enforce it! As a member of the Bargaining Team, it was great to feel everyone's support—including many RN's who got involved for the first time. I encourage you to help us enforce this new contract by becoming a Union Steward! The next training is at our Union Hall on January 17."—Sue McMaster Labor & Delivery RN and Bargaining Team Member |
A large majority of us voted "yes" to ratify our new contract, which goes into effect immediately. This contract would not have happened without the immense involvement of hundreds of united, powerful nurses who elected and supported our Bargaining Team, participated in photo actions, sticker-up days, our info picket and our overwhelming unity in calling for a strike!
Because we stood together, we won a contract that includes:
- 3.25% across-the-board each year for the three years of the contract
- Retro pay to September 15, 2017
- Increase of $.50/hour to on-call pay
- Value of health plan remains the same after 2018
- Improved workload language, including adherence to nurse-to-patient ratios
- RNs won’t be called off until safe staffing needs are established
- Creation of Break and Meal Period Relief Pool
- Creation of four full-time Break Relief Nurses
- Improved language on discipline, including RNs will no longer be reported to the BRN by the hospital unless a disciplinary decision has been made; also, the hospital now has a timeline to follow to impose discipline when appropriate
