My goal is to continue on the path to better contracts and a safer working environment for all healthcare workers. Creating opportunities to grow new leaders in our facilities by developing more stewards. Organizing non-union nurses to give them a voice in their workplace and to have the security of good paying jobs with benefits. Also advocating for quality patient care for our patients and our profession at the City, County, State and Federal level. When institutions fail the standard of care, we must amp up our vigilance and report them.

Another goal is for our nurses to become politically active. Collectively we have a powerful voice -- let's use it. We can all make a difference no matter which party we belong to.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your President; I look forward to serving another term.

Gayle Batiste

Vice President Choose one of three candidates

Jeannie King, RN  (Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center)

I've had the pleasure of serving as your VP of 121RN.  My experience has taken my hospital through two strikes. I was involved in organizing my own hospital, participated in bargaining three contracts, and I have helped nurses to organize their own facility for a voice. I actively attend all BRN meetings and am an active member of the SEIU Nurse Alliance of California. I have testified before Cal/OSHA more than once to protect nurses from workplace violence.

As your Vice President, I will continue to advocate for the rights of nurses and their patents!

Carmen Sierra, RN (Riverside Community Hospital)

My professional experience has been in the Emergency Dept at Riverside Community Hospital for the last 18 years. I volunteered in the hospital during my last two years of high school, became an LVN for 6 years while I studied for my RN license. I have been working ER for 24 years, during which time I also worked as a case manager for Workers’ Comp.  During that time, I earned commendations for high rates of return-to-work for our patients.

More recently I have been an active participant for SEIU 121RN as a union steward and served as our Chapter secretary treasurer. I am also a member of the Local-wide arbitration committee and I have participated in the last two contract negotiations at RCH. I am a member of the staffing committee representing nurses at RCH and, after years of meeting and discussing staffing issues with the employer with no results, we most recently executed our contractual right to mediation and led nurses to a successful victory.

Volunteerism: I have participated in several health fairs and I belong to a health ministry at church providing free blood pressure checks. I also teach classes on diabetes, high blood pressure, healthy diets and exercises.  I was a member of certified emergency first responder and a member of the neighborhood watch at my previous community for over 15 years. I am planning to sign up again once I settle in my new neighborhood. I believe in community service and in civic duty.

I am now interested in advancing and putting in practice my knowledge and skills. I have excellent people skills, I am approachable, and I am coachable. I have a keen interest in people and in their well-being. I like to communicate and I like to find common ground to help people communicate as well. I like problem-solving and I thrive most when I'm presented with conflict. I like to be part of the solution. I like to bring light when there is discord, and to find solutions to help the most amount of people. I believe in working together for a common goal. As Vice President I want to represent SEIU 121RN as a nurse working for the nurses. To help make nursing a better place for the nurses, for the patients and their families, and I believe I can represent the union and all the members.

Tracy Pryor, RN, BSN (John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital)

I graduated from nursing school in 1993 with an ADN from Ohlone College in Fremont, CA, then went on to receive a BSN from the University of Phoenix in 2008. Additionally, I am Certified in PACU (CPAN) and Orthopedics (ONC).

I worked as a CNA while going to nursing school, which gave me valuable clinical experience. Since graduating, I have worked in a long-term psychiatric care facility then a small surgery center. I started work at JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, CA in 1997, where I have worked in various departments including the Cath Lab, GI Lab, and PACU. These experiences have given me a variable background in different types of patient care which enabled me to begin working with the local community college as a clinical instructor in 2015. It has been tremendously rewarding to share information with my students and watch them grow.

In 2003, JFK Memorial was unionized. I became a union steward in 2010 and am currently the Chapter president at JFK. I have served on the bargaining team twice and helped to write the language for the Clinical Ladder program for the 2015 contract.

I have lobbied in Sacramento and Washington D.C. for multiple healthcare issues as well as for Workplace Violence Prevention standards.

I am looking forward to working with SEIU 121RN in assisting the nursing profession to grow and adapt to the ever-changing healthcare system.

Secretary/Treasurer Choose one of three candidates

Lorraine Myrick, RN (Riverside Community Hospital)

  1. Helped to promote and organize the nurses at RCH to join SEIU 121RN in 2006.
  2. Have been a union steward and have attended, fought and won many grievances concerning unfair disciplinary actions against nurses.
  3. With pride, I have served two terms as Chapter president at RCH and I am currently still serving.
  4. For the past six years, I have been a delegate representing SEIU, lobbying at the state capital for better standards of nursing. I have attended conferences throughout the country and was recently in Detroit Michigan, where I had the honor of meeting Hillary Clinton.
  5. I am co-chair of the RCH Staffing committee and the Clinical Ladder committee.
  6. I have participated in all contract negotiations since RCH nurses joined together in SEIU.

Goals:

  1. I would continue to maintain transparency of all finances and costs to the union.
  2. Implement ways in which the union can cut costs in order to show a profit. Get rid of any frivolous spending that is not union-related.
  3. Hopefully find a way to update technology which would make it easy to do business such a issuing checks, paying our overhead and have a well-ordered bookkeeping system.

In closing, I feel that I am highly qualified to take on the role of Secretary Treasurer of SEIU 121RN.

Alvin Nadal-Vitug, RN (Providence St. Joseph Medical Center)

I am a registered nurse at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. As a 121RN local Union member, I'm serving as Vice President amongst fellow members within my hospital. I'm currently a member of the Labor/Management committee and have developed experience in representing nurses during grievance processes during the two months I acted as Union Rep.

I work in the Oncology unit day shift caring for patients with cancer-related issues. I've also worked with "Mi Familia Vota," a minority rights group advocating for immigration reform, which ultimately led me to meet President Obama at the Oval Office regarding this issue.

If elected Secretary-Treasurer, I will continue to work as hard for all 121RN members as I have for my co-workers at Providence St. Joe's.  I have been a Union Steward for four years, have successfully negotiated improvements to working conditions with support from other RN members, have taken a personal leave from my hospital to represent Union members, and have had the opportunity to meet members from Providence Tarzana and other hospitals who've shared stories about their experiences at their workplaces. I would be honored to represent our members throughout our Union as Secretary Treasurer.

Cielmar Zamora, RN (Garfield Medical Center)

I am campaigning for Secretary of Treasury for SEIU local 121RN position.  My goals are:
