Contract negotiations between our SEIU 121RN Bargaining Team and management resume today. Our team met for the day on Monday to continue refining our bargaining priorities. Stay tuned for news on what happens in bargaining today!
In previous sessions, our team and management came to tentative agreements on Mutual Respect and Commitment, and Non-Discrimination. The new language is below. Agreements remain tentative until all articles in the contract are agreed upon by both Bargaining Teams. Then the entire agreement is ratified by members.
MUTUAL RESPECT AND COMMITMENT
The Union and the Employer believe that all people who work or conduct business within the hospital setting should act in a professional and ethical manner. Likewise, the Parties agree to conduct their relationship in a manner that reflects mutual respect and a joint commitment to problem-solving, and in any communications they shall focus on the merits of the particular issue in debate, address differences in a positive manner and not engage in personal attacks or make derogatory comments about their respective organizations, affiliates, and leadership.
NON-DISCRIMINATION (Added language is in bold and underlined.)
The Employer and the Union agree that there shall be no discrimination against any covered employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, mental, or physical handicap, sexual orientation, political affiliation, medical condition, marital status, creed, veteran status (including Vietnam-era or disabled veteran status), or in violation of any City, State or Federal laws.
There shall be no distinction between wages paid to men and wages paid to women for the performance of comparable quality and quantity of work in the same or similar jobs. Neither the Employer nor the Union will engage in conduct that would constitute unlawful discrimination under the National Labor Relations Act.
