Pomona Valley Hospital LDRP Nurses are disappointed that their grievance to be paid weekend premium has fallen on deaf ears and had to be submitted to arbitration. There have been some new additions to their scheduling committee. We are hopeful that the changes made to comply with the contract will continue. A big thanks to Joanne, Jennifer and Melissa, who are working to help educate, comply and improve the schedule.
Many units are still experiencing discontent with web scheduling. A couple of Units have been able to discuss the issues of concern with upper management and compliance is being worked on. Other units have not been as successful. This issue will be big at the bargaining table this fall.
Issues with nurses being turned down for FMLA or Workers’ Comp claims continue. Much education is needed at PVHMC to understand the rules and regulations, especially the new 2012 updates. Thanks to 121 RN for aiding in our education to assist our bargaining family. Stewards and the Union Rep spend a lot of time helping nurses learn applicable state and federal rights under the law.
The Emergency Room at Pomona is extremely busy all the time. Their Director quit suddenly early this year and has not been replaced. The Director of Nursing Services has taken over the responsibility of that position at present. Meetings have taken place and some serious issues have been addressed. The ER has exceptional nurses working in it, there just aren’t enough of them. Many give completely of themselves as they are so devoted to great patient care and their co workers. In addition to doctor, staffing and ratio issues, there are serious issues regarding appropriate and needed equipment.
A special thank you to those who attended the Cesar Chavez Breakfast and participated in the Pomona College Rally. Union locals joining together can make positive change for little folks like us. Plus, it was so much fun.
