Registered Nurses throughout California are claiming victory due to the passage of Senate Bill 98. On Dec. 31, 2011, the California Board of Registered Nursing was dissolved through a sunset provision in its authorizing statute. The Board of Registered Nursing regulates the practice of registered nursing and certified advanced practice nurses in order to protect the public. The program exists to protect the health and safety of consumers and promote quality registered nursing care in California.
The Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review acted immediately and passed a trailer bill (SB 98) that reinstated the California Board of Registered Nursing. SB 98 passed the committee with a majority vote on February 2. The bill has been presented to Governor Brown and he is expected to sign it into law.
SEIU 121RN will keep you apprised of any new details on the reinstatement of the Board of Registered Nursing.
