Local 121RN members at Hollywood Presbyterian have a new Union Representative, JoAnn Valdez. Valdez has been making rounds of the facility for at least a month now, is aware of the floors that are out of ratio, and has begun to address the issue. She is also aware that schedules are being changed without your consent and recently addressed this issue.

“I am moving around at a slow pace so that I can spend hours in each area to get to know all of you and learn about your concerns,” Valdez says. “When I first began, I started in the area where there seemed to be the most complaints, such as punitive disciplines taking place and management addressing work issues while RNs are on lunch breaks.”

Valdez said she has also had members tell her they have been screamed at and followed. This is unacceptable.

There are pay raise and holiday pay issues that are being questioned that she is working on and has brought to the attention of HR. We were notified by HR that there is a payroll audit taking place and holiday pay issues are being worked on.

“I will make every effort to help improve the morale that members have said is very low. This has been expressed to HR,” Valdez says. “I do not believe that anyone should feel uncomfortable in their work environment. Let’s all work together to make the difference.”
