Our Union met with management again on Monday, July 11 to discuss budget and census at SJRMC. We have not yet received all of the budget information requested at our initial meeting with management on June 23, and we renewed that request on Monday.
The hospital claims that on average they are flexing 58 FTEs per pay period and thus need to “right size” the organization.
However, our Union brought up questions that management could not answer.
- They could not clearly identify whether the 58 FTEs that need to be laid off are RNs, management or other staff.
- They could not clearly identify what the “right size” is for each department.
- They have not said how many RNs might be affected if there were a reduction.
The hospital did propose making the layoffs voluntary, but our Union believes this is premature since we are unclear which departments, if any, need to be reduced.
