PCSTMC Bargaining Update: #19

Health & Safety: Hazards Need More Accountability

A group of pediatric nurses attended bargaining today and witnessed management’s stonewalling firsthand.

Mekayla Hipolito,Pediatric RN shared:

We want more teeth in the contract because it would show the hospital is taking accountability. Nurses have to take accountability every day — the hospital should have to do the same for environmental hazards.”

Today, we continued pushing hard on our Health & Safety proposal, which addresses, water intrusion, mold in the HVAC, sewage drainage issues, and other hazards reported since the strike. Despite the Chief Negotiator repeating that these hazards “aren’t handled at the table,” they must be! Our proposal strengthens accountability by requiring:

  • Clear, enforceable contract language
  • Immediate notification to all employees when hazards are discovered
  • Specific steps and protections, not vague apologies.

Will there be real accountability and protections?

Harassment Protections: We Are Holding the Line

As more members come forward with stories of harassment and fear of retaliation, we made it clear: this must be addressed in the contract. We held firm on two key protections, as options:

Paid Protective Leave

If a worker reports harassment, they must have the option to go on paid protective leave during the investigation.

Safe Reassignment

If the member prefers to keep working, they must be allowed to transfer to another unit away from the alleged harasser — without penalty.

Management claims “there is no issue at Tarzana.” Our members’ lived experiences say otherwise.

Regarding Providence’s “Wage Increases”

The hospital is now combining ATB increases with Step increases and trying to present them as a single raise. This creates a false impression that you’re getting a larger increase than you actually are.

A “6% increase” is actually a 3% ATB — the other 3% is your normal Step. Providence has never merged these numbers before. They only do it when they want to hide how low their wage proposals really are.

We made it clear: Our members deserve transparency — not math tricks.
