Henry Soria is a union representative, organizer, and negotiator with nearly two decades of experience building worker power in the public and private healthcare sectors. His passion for organizing began in the fourth grade, when he organized a strike of his classmates and negotiated with the school principal to remove an abusive substitute teacher. This indelible experience taught him about the power people have to create change— and he hasn’t stopped since.

Henry has led organizing and contract campaigns that won safer staffing, record wage increases, stronger workplace protections, and millions of dollars in backpay through arbitration. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he organized nurses in a public picket and media campaign after a nurse contracted COVID-19 in the hospital and transmitted it to his parents, resulting in his father’s death.

In Nevada, Henry negotiated the first union contract outside of California to incorporate specific nurse-to-patient staffing ratios and break relief coverage. He led contract negotiations and the first nurses strike at USC Keck, a campaign that resulted in record wage increases and increased staffing. He organized nurses to successfully pressure a healthcare insurer and hospital system to end discriminatory practices and provide gender-affirming care for nurses and family members enrolled in their plans.

Henry believes nurses are strongest when they recognize their collective power and become organized, united, and unafraid to demand respect, staffing, and patient care standards their communities deserve.
