About this course:
Nurses have raised staffing concerns for years through documentation, internal reporting, and regulatory complaints, often without seeing the outcomes those concerns deserved. This course examines how the California Department of Public Health evaluates staffing concerns, why enforcement outcomes have historically felt inconsistent at the bedside, and how that gap between frontline experience and enforcement practice drove the passage of SB 227 and SB 596. Participants will learn what CDPH reviews during a staffing investigation, how documentation factors into retrospective enforcement, what SB 227 and SB 596 clarified within existing law, and how nursing legislation has shaped patient safety and working conditions over time.
