Union of Nurses and Licensed Medical Professionals, with thousands working and living in Los Angeles, trust Raman to stand up for healthcare workers and patients.
Los Angeles—SEIU 121RN, a labor union representing 12,000 Registered Nurses and Licensed Medical Professionals in Southern California, announced its endorsement of Nithya Raman for Mayor of Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Thousands of SEIU 121RN members care for patients in Los Angeles hospitals, and thousands more call the city home.
SEIU 121RN members know that healthcare and jobs are inextricably linked to good government. Union members trust that Raman—a proven advocate for working people and a defender of the public health—will provide strong leadership as our healthcare system faces mounting pressures.
“Our healthcare system is being pushed to the brink, with demand rising as funding is slashed. More than ever, Nurses and Licensed Medical Professionals need elected leaders who will defend our dignity as healthcare workers and protect our patients’ safety. Nithya Raman will take on healthcare corporations that put profit over patients, and she’ll fight back against policies that strip Angelenos of the care they need. We’re proud to endorse Nithya and her bold vision for a healthy, safe and thriving City of Los Angeles,” said SEIU 121RN President, Leo Perez.
SEIU 121RN members support Raman’s multi-faceted approach to creating a healthier Los Angeles, one that incorporates mental health, housing, public safety and support for healthcare workers, and leaves no one behind.
“Working on the behavioral health floor of a busy Los Angeles hospital, I care for patients who must overcome significant obstacles to lead full, healthy lives. My patients are dealing with addiction, mental health crises, domestic violence, homelessness, and more. For many of them, the hospital is the only safety net they have. I want to provide the compassionate care they deserve, but they need help outside the hospital too. I know that Nithya will ensure that my patients receive the services they desperately need, and she’ll make it a priority in her administration.” said Brittany Brandon, a Registered Nurse at Southern California Hospital Hollywood.
Nurses consistently rank first on lists of the most trusted professions. SEIU 121RN members have vowed to talk to thousands of voters in the final month of the campaign as part of the union’s get out the vote effort.
